In recent weeks, Investigators with the Irving Police Department have noticed an increase in residential burglaries that are occurring in the area bounded by Pioneer on the north, Beltline on the west, Story to the east, and Conflans to the south. The burglars usually enter from the rear of the home by either breaking a window or door, or in some cases, enter through an unlocked rear door. Once inside, the homes are ransacked and one of the primary items stolen is firearms. These offenses have occurred during the daytime hours. We ask that residents take extra effort to ensure that entry points on the rear of their homes are secured, alarm systems are activated (if equipped), and any hiding areas in the rear of the homes are eliminated (trim high shrubs, etc.).

Also, if you keep firearms in your home, a gun safe is the best way to secure them. Also keep the ammunition separate from the guns, if a safe is not used. In the event your guns are stolen, make sure you have the make, model, and serial numbers available to provide to police.

As always, residents are urged to call the police if they see someone or something suspicious.

Street lights can only be installed where there is a power pole on the property line at the back of the properties. A new pole between the curb and sidewalk would then be installed with an overhead aerial line that would run between the two poles. If there are any trees between these two poles that would conflict with the overhead wire, then the light cannot be installed. Removal of such conflicting trees or limbs would be the responsibility of the homeowner/resident. Since in some cases the street light would be installed between two separate properties, it is extremely important that both homeowners are aware and accept the above terms. If you are interested in having an inspection for possible street light installation, please contact Gary Hurtado, Traffic Engineering Technician, at 972-721-2646. This is a great way of increasing visibility and therefore safety within Sherwood Forest. Again, please keep in mind that all services listed above,
with the exception of tree/limb removal, are completely free of charge for the homeowner/resident.
