Home Energy Conservation Basics: Learn basic techniques to help reduce energy consumption and electric bill costs during this informative class from 9 to 11 a.m. Jan. 17 at the Valley Ranch Library, 401 Cimarron Trail. Discussion topics will include compact fluorescent light bulbs, phantom energy loss and the Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR program. Energy-efficient prizes will be given away. Christmas Decorating Contest Winner!

Congratulations to the winner of the Sherwood Forest 2nd Annual christmas Decorating Contest:

309 Robinhood Court.
They had used red and white to decorate with. They had bows,snowman, deer, tree lit up, yard out lined and the chimney was covered with multi colored lights and animated.

Honorable mentions:

2800 Yorkshire – The yard all the way around the house was covered with different size trees all fully lit with white lights. The house was outlined with iceblue icicles.

410 Little John – The shrubs where covered with white lights, in the middle of the shrubs they had used red and green lights to form a Christmas package with a bow on top. There was a deer in the yard and a star on top of the house.

Thanks to all who entered and Doris Dickey, Ann Deem and another judge from Barton Estates in helping to make Sherwood Forest beautiful for the Holidays!

Free Sidewalk Repairs!

Got hazards? Sidewalk hazards that is! If so the City of Irving will repair any cracked/hazardous sidewalk free of charge to the homeowner. Although no lost grass will be replaced, homeowners can request a free bag of grass seed to fill in the affected areas after repairs. Please call 972-721-2201 and have your sidewalk repaired today!

Irving Garden and Arts Club meeting – Sep. 11th

The Irving Garden and Arts Club will be starting their 2008 – 2009 year off on Sep. 11th at 10:00 a.m. They meet the second Thursday of every month from September through May at 10:00 a.m. at the Garden and Arts building on Senter St. across from Senter Park Recreation Center. Deck the Homes Holiday Decorating Contest

Enter the Sherwood Forest Neighborhood Association (SFNA) holiday decorating contest and win $$ for the holidays! Decorate the exterior of your home with colorful lights, wreaths, scenery and other decorative ornaments during the holiday season.

1st Place winner will receive 50% of the entry fees

Remainder of the entry fees will go to the neighborhood association in an effort to improve our neighborhood. Get your neighbors to participate, have fun AND increase the prize money!

Contest Rules:
1. There is a $10 entry fee per household payable by check or cash to SFNA.
2. Lighting Displays must be up and lit by December 15, 2007.
3. Judging: We have asked the City to help us select a panel of independent judges who will review the displays on December 18.
4. Winner will be announced on the SFNA Web Site www.mysherwoodforest.com on Sunday December 23.
5. The winner will also be notified by phone.

Mosquito spraying

Mosquito spraying: The City of Irving has an active mosquito surveillance program, and when certain conditions are met, the city will spray to kill adult mosquitoes.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention protocol, the city will conduct mosquito spraying operations when one or more of the following public health conditions become known:

1. When mosquito trap counts exceed a preset number.

2. When a trap sample is positive for West Nile virus.

3. When a suspected human case of West Nile virus is reported.

4. When a confirmed human case of West Nile virus is reported.

Residents experiencing significant mosquito activity should report this information to Irving’s mosquito hot line at (972) 721-3755.
