Is your property dark at night? Would you like to brighten it up at (potentially) no cost?
Street lights can be installed for free by the city. There are, however restrictions. Street lights can only be installed where there is a power pole on the property line at the back of the properties. A new pole between the curb and sidewalk would then be installed with an overhead aerial line that would run between the two poles. If there are any trees between these two poles that would conflict with the overhead wire, then the light cannot be installed. Removal of such conflicting trees or limbs would be the responsibility of the homeowner/resident. Since in some cases the street light would be installed between two separate properties, it is extremely important that both homeowners are aware and accept the above terms. If you are interested in having an inspection for possible street light installation, please contact Gary Hurtado, Traffic Engineering Technician, at 972-721-2646.
This is a great way of increasing visibility and therefore safety within Sherwood Forest. Again, please keep in mind that all services listed above, with the exception of tree/limb removal, are completely free of charge for the homeowner/resident.

The first article about getting street lights installed by the city, has a misspelled word. Dark instead of darak.
I would like to have a street light installed at the Nottingham Channel on Alan-A-Dale. I would like it to shine up and down that ditch. Several break-ins have happened along here. The one just last Wednesday, although it did happen at 3 PM during the day. It is necessary to light this ditch at night. We never know what is going on after dark in this ditch. There is still some grafitti from a previous event.
To Connie: I have contacted the city regarding both the grafitti removal and the possible light installation. I will post a response as soon as I know more…
I spoke to Gary Hurtado last week. He gave me several key reasons why a light cannot be installed at this specific location. Mainly, there is no way for the light to shine directly on the ditch. Please contact him with further concerns.
